ERITERAN-AMERICAN JOURNALIST MIELA FETAW
Miela Fetaw is an Eritrean-American journalist, filmmaker and social strategist. Her work has appeared in The Intercept, The Washington Post, ESSENCE, Huffington Post, among other places. Miela makes it her business to tell stories of disenfranchised communities. She believes that storytelling, social justice, and accountability are all deeply connected.
What are you most proud of? "I am most proud of being Black, being a woman, and being alive."
What’s the first thing you think about when you wake up? "Love."
What’s your favorite thing about (or place in) Milwaukee?"My favorite thing about Milwaukee is my sense of community. There aren't many places that make you feel like home, but I have a village here that stretches miles. I am safe here. I am protected. Home is here."
